It really needs to be read to be believed.

MUST READ RT @DRUDGE_REPORT: Hillary Clinton aide goes ballistic over Libya questions…

— Matt Mackowiak (@MattMackowiak) September 24, 2012

Philippe Reines, long-time Hillary Clinton aide and spokesman, totally flipped out when a reporter dared to question the State Department’s crumbling Benghazi narrative.

Drudge goes with "**WARNING: Graphic language**" for story on emails between Reines and Hastings

Hillary Clinton Aide Tells Reporter To “Fuck Off” And “Have A Nice Life” via @buzzfeed

— Michael Hastings (@mmhastings) September 24, 2012

The email exchange started when Michael Hastings with BuzzFeed asked Mr. Reines about Ambassador Steven’s journal, which was taken by CNN from the scene. CNN admitted that they disgracefully concealed this evidence in order to scour it first for “scoops,” as Twitchy reported.

Over this weekend, Mr. Reines had blasted CNN while covering for the State Department’s horrendous handling of what happened when four Americans died during the consulate attack in Libya. Reines didn’t care for the fact that Hastings actually dared to question the State Department’s competence and the email exchange quickly deteriorated, once Hastings called out Reines for his attempted spin.

More from Mr. Hastings’ report:

From: Michael Hastings
Sent: Sunday, September 23, 2012 12:50 PM
To: Reines, Philippe I
Cc: Nuland, Victoria J
Subject: Re: Request for comment
Why don’t you give answers that aren’t bullshit for a change?
On Sun, Sep 23, 2012 at 1:38 PM, Reines, Philippe I wrote:
I now understand why the official investigation by the Department of the Defense as reported by The Army Times The Washington Post concluded beyond a doubt that you’re an unmitigated asshole.
How’s that for a non-bullshit response?
Now that we’ve gotten that out of our systems, have a good day.
And by good day, I mean Fuck Off

Reines then told Hastings to have a good life and that he’d be designated as junk mail.

Twitter was soon buzzing over the story.

Last 2 days: 1) Hillary aide tells reporter to f*ck off, 2) Axelrod says no SS plan, 3) Cutter claims women don't care about last 4 years

I've gone over 24 hours w/out mentioning how the Clintons are hillbillies. I'm about to rectify that. #HillBillies

— LittleMissRightie (@LilMissRightie) September 24, 2012

Did she throw any plate while she said it? MT @freddoso Uh, wow.

— LittleMissRightie (@LilMissRightie) September 24, 2012

Hey Team BuzzFeed…be sure to send Reines a nice fruit-basket or something for all the traffic and notice he's going to get you.

— DrewMTips (@DrewMTips) September 24, 2012

i like how Reines capitalizes Fuck Off. makes it pretty official

— Rosie Gray (@RosieGray) September 24, 2012

lol RT @jpodhoretz @BuzzFeedBen And who started to curse first, Ben? Seems like Reines was provoked by unprofessional behavior by your guy.

— Michael Hastings (@mmhastings) September 24, 2012

When questioned about discrepancies in a national tragedy, I'm glad to hear @StateDept's response is "eff off." #lol

— Kemberlee Kaye (@KemberleeKaye) September 24, 2012

Have a good day… RT @BuzzFeedBen: You will want to read this exchange between Philippe Reines and @mmhastings

— el Sooper (@SooperMexican) September 24, 2012

looks liker Hillary and company do not like being Challenged Philippe Reines got all bitchy

— Political Smackdown (@PCsmackdown) September 24, 2012

@mmhastings Reines needs a copy of "How to be snarky without sounding like a little girl" by PeeWee Herman

— Nancy (@RightDame) September 24, 2012

Twitter user Jeff Sharlet then weighed in with his own experiences with the oh-so-classy Reines.

Hillary Clinton's flack Philippe Reines told @mmhastings he was an "unmitigated asshole." Actually, that'd be Reines…

— JeffSharlet (@JeffSharlet) September 24, 2012

back in 07, Kathryn Joyce & I wrote about Hillary's unexpected religious conservatism for @motherjones. Reines was her flack then, too…

— JeffSharlet (@JeffSharlet) September 24, 2012

My conversation w/ Reines was most unpleasant in my years of political reporting. & I normally report on far right-wingers…

— JeffSharlet (@JeffSharlet) September 24, 2012

Worse than those icky “right wingers!” Egads! Still, clearly he’s not out to “get” Hillary Clinton.

Took Reines about 20 seconds to decide I was an enemy because I asked about something in Hillary's book. & then the screaming began…

— JeffSharlet (@JeffSharlet) September 24, 2012

Can't remember what names Reines called me. But here's his "Fuck off" transcript w/ @mmhastings:

— JeffSharlet (@JeffSharlet) September 24, 2012

@daveweigel I'm not a Romney/RNC type, at all, but I'm happy to spread the Hastins/Reines story. Reines is nastiest flack I've encountered.

— JeffSharlet (@JeffSharlet) September 24, 2012

That’s saying something!

Others root for injuries, since BuzzFeed has a history of bias and lapdoggery.

Michael Hastings vs. State Department vs. CNN? The Kissinger Rule Applies: It's a shame they can't all lose.

— DrewMTips (@DrewMTips) September 24, 2012

Agreed. MT @evanchill: Man, it's a photo finish who comes off worse in the Michael Hastings-Philippe Reines slapfest.

— kelley currie (@mackiesmama) September 24, 2012

And, where is the media pearl-clutching? Will this be reported breathlessly?

Hillary Clinton's spokesman tells reporter to "f#*$ off". will the media cover this?

— Richard Grenell (@RichardGrenell) September 24, 2012

Um, so how come the MSM isn't calling for Phillipe Reines head? Good grief!

— Nathan Wurtzel (@NathanWurtzel) September 24, 2012

I mean, a Republican says that to a reporter? Remember what happened in Europe this summer? Scandal!

— Nathan Wurtzel (@NathanWurtzel) September 24, 2012

I mean, part of me likes what Reines did, but…even I wouldn't go that far.

— Nathan Wurtzel (@NathanWurtzel) September 24, 2012

And Twitter user Derek Hunter puts it all into a nutshell.

Obama Administration has harsher words for reporters seeking answer than for the monsters who murdered Amb Stevens #p2

— Derek Hunter (@derekahunter) September 24, 2012

Bingo. Well, it was just a “bump in the road” and all.
