According to his tweets, Washington Post columnist E.J. Dionne spent the afternoon in the MSNBC studios with Al Sharpton, so who can say what might have happened to his higher cognitive skills in that environment. He also appeared on NPR’s “Week in Politics,” where he repeated a desperate anti-GOP claim that most liberals dropped like a hot rock early this week: if the GOP hadn’t allowed the NRA to block the president’s surgeon general nominee, we wouldn’t be in the market for an Ebola czar.

What we do have now is an acting surgeon general who’s nowhere to be found and an Ebola czar with no medical training whatsoever.

@EJDionne That's it. Pass the buck for your party's screw-ups.

— Brett Adams (@BrettAdams12) October 18, 2014

@EJDionne We already have an interim Surgeon General; not sure what either have to do with banning flight from West Africa.

— Phillip McGuire (@PhillipCMcGuire) October 18, 2014

@EJDionne Why do you try and make it sound like we don't have a surgeon general. Rear Admiral (RADM) Boris D. Lushniak, M.D., M.P.H.

— Brett Adams (@BrettAdams12) October 18, 2014

@EJDionne @NormOrnstein You really thing a SG would have prevented the problems we've had? Respect your opinion, but that's quite a stretch

— Ron Fournier (@ron_fournier) October 18, 2014

@ron_fournier @EJDionne Prevented? No. Helped a lot to coordinate efforts, provided a respected voice focused on public health, you bet.

— Norman Ornstein (@NormOrnstein) October 18, 2014

@t67336525 @EJDionne @NormOrnstein Competence calms. Words, hollow. Surgeon general wouldn't make system work. Figurehead. Klain might.

— Ron Fournier (@ron_fournier) October 18, 2014

.@t67336525 @EJDionne @NormOrnstein Best thing we can do for the WH is to stop making excuses 4 them. Stop enabling failure & they may grow

— Ron Fournier (@ron_fournier) October 18, 2014

@ron_fournier @t67336525 @EJDionne it wouldn't hurt to acknowledge that blocking nominees for political purposes has consequences

— Norman Ornstein (@NormOrnstein) October 18, 2014

.@EJDionne HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!!

— Instapundit.com (@instapundit) October 18, 2014

Now you’ve made Instapundit laugh.

@instapundit @EJDionne Classic.

— Aleister (@AmericanGlob) October 18, 2014

@EJDionne @instapundit Two words EJ. BORIS LUSHNIAK. Google him. Or you can try google Acting Surgeon General.

— Zaggs (@Zaggs) October 18, 2014

@EJDionne @instapundit Silly assertion. There is an acting Surgeon General.

— Sherman Frederick (@shermfrederick) October 18, 2014

@instapundit @EJDionne HOLY SHIT! He really just said that?? Who IS this tool?????

— Porky (@__Porky) October 18, 2014

@EJDionne POTUS would have a Surgeon General if he didn't nominate incompetent extremists. @instapundit

— Charles Flemming (@ChasFlemming) October 18, 2014

@EJDionne @instapundit Don't we have an acting SG with the same powers? #Strawman

— Sen. Frank Niceley (@SenFrankNiceley) October 18, 2014

What’s the acting Surgeon General doing? Nothing? https://t.co/XbpKyD4b9L @EJDionne

— RB (@RBPundit) October 18, 2014

@EJDionne So he appointed a political hack for Czar? You can't even lie well.

— EducatédHillbilly (@RobProvince) October 18, 2014

@instapundit @EJDionne So you're saying the lawyer picked for #Ebolaczar is doing the same job an MD selected for Surgeon General would do?

— Trev (@CP4070) October 18, 2014

@EJDionne @instapundit such a good lap dog who's a good wittle lap dog? You are yes you are

— Scott (@BuffaloBlueBear) October 18, 2014

@EJDionne You might want to catch up on the news – Reid killed the filibuster. Dems can approve any nominee with NO Republican votes.

— Paul Levitt (@Dipsys_pal) October 18, 2014

@EJDionne @instapundit Lushniak is not only a Doctor, but a Rear Admiral as well.Medical and executive experience.2 things Klain is missing.

— Zaggs (@Zaggs) October 18, 2014

Hi EJ, you don’t know what the Surgeon General does, huh? @EJDionne

— RB (@RBPundit) October 18, 2014

@instapundit FFS, @EJDionne there is a Surgeon General AND an Ebola Czar already. This is just one more worthless bureaucrat. GOOGLE!!

— Heather (@hboulware) October 18, 2014

@EJDionne Jesus, E.J. that's a clown statement, bro.

— Rick Wilson (@TheRickWilson) October 18, 2014

@hboulware @instapundit I don't expect intellectual honesty, self awareness or class out of leftists, ESPECIALLY the "smart" ones @EJDionne

— Zanshi 惨死 (@zanshi1) October 18, 2014

@EJDionne it’s like you get stupider each day… wonder if the FDA has a cure for that? #moron

— Michi I. (@michi83) October 18, 2014

Am ebola czar who ignores ebola and focuses solely on gun control is not an ebola czar. But you already knew that. @EJDionne @instapundit

— Antonio Martinez (@djtechchicago) October 18, 2014

@hboulware @instapundit Maybe @EJDionne thinks we should put a Surgeon General's Warning on flights from #Ebola hot zones.

— Sen. Frank Niceley (@SenFrankNiceley) October 18, 2014

.@NormOrnstein @EJDionne So GOP Senators are to blame for their obstinance, while the NRA is to blame for Dem Sens' obstinance? @orrinknox

— jon gabriel (@exjon) October 18, 2014

@SenFrankNiceley I’m pretty sure Surgeon Generals don’t have a magic spell that stops Ebola. @instapundit @EJDionne

— Heather (@hboulware) October 18, 2014

@EJDionne Even the WH is calling bullshit on your straw man..http://t.co/CEYMdcKnhg Back to the chalk board.

— Sammy (@sdonabedian7) October 18, 2014

@EJDionne And what would a Surgeon General done that the CDC, NIH and President couldn't do to stop #Ebola? Care to explain that? #smh

— CFLancop (@CFLancop) October 18, 2014

@EJDionne There wouldn't need to be an Ebola czar if Obama said NO flights to/from Africa or connecting flights from EU. Derp @AaronWorthing

— Zanshi 惨死 (@zanshi1) October 18, 2014

@kerpen Dems control the Senate & WH yet the GOP is responsible for everything the government does wrong. @NormOrnstein @EJDionne

— jon gabriel (@exjon) October 18, 2014

@EJDionne what a bunch of malarkey. His SG is all about pushing junk science to change behavior. Obama is afraid of competence below him.

— Brad Cundiff (@bradcundiff) October 18, 2014

BREAKING: Old ass Washington journalists have no idea what the Surgeon General does. Or that we have one. Currently. @NormOrnstein @EJDionne

— RB (@RBPundit) October 18, 2014

You know that the Surgeon General would get laughed out of the room if he tried to run the Ebola response, right? @NormOrnstein @EJDionne

— RB (@RBPundit) October 18, 2014

.@EJDionne For the love of all that's dear, I still can't figure out why @WP pays you to write this unintelligible drivel….. #blahblahblah

— Boris Vaynman (@bvaynman) October 18, 2014

@NoSilentConsent @instapundit Luckily, @EJDionne gets to hang on to his douche canoe award with this comment. He's a serial idiot.

— Pearl Hart (@StopThisMadnes1) October 18, 2014

@epobirs @instapundit @EJDionne Its just the Ebola fever talking.
